Building Emotional Regulation to Strengthen Resilience in Uncertain Times
We were pleased to host our recent session, Building Emotional Regulation to Strengthen Resilience in Uncertain Times, bringing together senior leaders to explore how emotional regulation can enhance decision-making, resilience and leadership effectiveness in complex environments.
In today’s increasingly demanding and uncertain context, the ability to remain composed, curious and deliberate under pressure has become a critical leadership capability. The session took a neuro-behavioural approach, grounded in how the brain and nervous system respond in high-stakes situations, and translated this into practical tools for everyday leadership.
The session was led by Clare Iles, Executive Coach and Behaviour Change Practitioner, who shared both commercial and behavioural perspectives drawn from her experience as a former C-suite executive working across media, publishing, telecommunications and travel. Now through her practice, The Blended Coach, she partners with senior leaders and executive teams during periods of change and transition, combining behavioural science with real-world leadership insight.
During the session, Clare explored practical approaches and reflection prompts designed to help leaders: respond rather than react in critical moments, interrupt habitual patterns that can limit judgement, maintain clarity under pressure, make more deliberate and context-driven decisions, and strengthen curiosity in complex situations.
The discussion highlighted how emotional regulation is not simply a personal skill, but a core leadership capability that directly impacts team performance, decision quality and organisational resilience.
The session was highly interactive, with attendees engaging in thoughtful discussion, sharing experiences and exploring how these techniques can be applied in real leadership contexts. The Q&A provided further opportunity to reflect on how leaders can embed these practices into their day-to-day decision-making.
Some kind words from our attendees:
“Thanks so much for organising and sharing these materials. I really enjoyed the content in the session – it really helped me reposition things, and Clare was kind enough to answer an additional question for me on LinkedIn afterwards.
Really appreciate all the support you lend to candidates and the great content – it really sets you apart. Please keep it coming!"
"Thank you for inviting me to, and organising, such an insightful webinar today with Clare Iles. It felt very relevant to where I am currently in my own career transition.
There were several valuable takeaways that I will genuinely reflect on and put into practice, particularly around the breathing exercise, activating reward, responding rather than reacting, and creating more space for reflection."
"Thank you for the inspirational session this morning on strengthening our resilience in uncertain teams. It was great, I loved the provocation and ways to reframe what is happening to us. Thank you so much for organising this on our behalf."
"Thanks for organising. I’ll never breathe the same way again."
"Thank you very much for organising another very interesting webinar and sharing insightful advice."
Overall, the session offered a practical and thought-provoking perspective on leadership under pressure, equipping attendees with tools to strengthen resilience and enhance clarity in uncertain times.
