What does the new marketer look like?

With the pace of progress in marketing technology, the changing landscape has already significantly impacted marketing teams. Clients are looking to harness opportunities quickly with transformational and interim roles that provide the impact and flexibility needed at this early stage of strategic and organisational change.

So, what does the new marketer look like?

Flexible

With the rise of interim roles, clients are looking for candidates who have both a breadth of experience but with a specialism in specific areas. While digital transformation is an area with significant demand, areas such as brand management and performance marketing remain popular. What clients need is a marketer with a customer-centric approach who will embrace change, stay up to date on industry trends and who can pivot strategies and tactics when needed.

Customer-centric

Rather than focusing solely on selling products or services, the new marketer prioritises understanding and meeting customer needs. Through data, two-way communication, the right touchpoints and personalised experiences, they are continuingly learning and fine-tuning their approaches. They also consider increased customer awareness for ethical practices and social responsibility to create positive change through their work.

Digital savvy

The new marketer is well-versed in digital marketing strategies, platforms and technologies. They understand the impact and importance of social media, SEO, content, email and metrics but, most importantly, where customers are spending their time and how they engage. They understand the importance of ongoing learning and professional development to stay on top of these changes.

There has been some real concern about how AI will impact marketing teams going forward, however, successful implementation of AI in marketing requires a combination of human creativity, strategic thinking, and AI-driven insights. Marketers are here to stay and are more important than ever within the organisational structure - they are the voice of the customer.
