2021 movement 

Recruitment rebounded in 2021. It was an active time for those who had stayed put during the early stages of the pandemic. For those who moved into new positions in 2021, and with many more in the first half of 2022, candidates are not ready to move again. This has resulted in a smaller pool of active candidates. 

Skills shortages 

As widely reported, the skills shortage has affected most sectors and functions. Marketing and digital is no different. As senior leaders are now expected to support a digital-first agenda, with in-depth knowledge to creatively disrupt in their sectors, this has impacted the talent pool further. In addition, evolving corporate cultures now seek senior leaders with the emotional intelligence to lead with empathy, collaboration, and clear communication. We have therefore seen this drive an increase in psychometric testing and assessments. 

Interim trend 

As companies look for strategic and operational support in challenging times, the interim market is thriving. These low-risk and high-impact roles have huge remits, substantial remuneration and a swift recruitment process, so perfectly suited to a changing landscape over the months to come. In addition, the strategic expertise and delivery of tangible outputs means that interim leaders are ideally placed to work alongside or in place management consultancy – a growing trend.
